

ALL “A” ACTION Heats up McBrayer Arena
Basketball fans crowding into Eastern Kentucky University’s McBrayer Arena for this year’s ALL A Tournament, January 27 thru January 31 were treated to some pulse-pounding action. One fan remarked “the calendar says January, but it sure feels like March, here in McBrayer.
In the Girls’ finals, Newport Central Catholic won out over Louisville Holy Cross by a score of 56-40. Newport Central’s Courtney Sandfoss was honored as the most valuable player.
In the boys’ finals, Shelby Valley beat DeSales 46 to 37 to clinch their second ALL A championship in a row. Shelby Valley’s Elisha Justice also repeated as the most valuable player.
In the girls’ tournament, the Somerset squad was the winner of the in-game cheerleading competition, Caldwell county was the runner-up and Harlan placed third.
Top cheerleading honors in the boy’s tournament went to Glasgow; with Williamsburg second and Hazard came in third.
The tournament quarter-finals, semi-finals and championship games were broadcast by Wazoo Sports and could be seen on digital channels WLEX 18.2 in Lexington, WHAS 11.3 in Louisville and on cable channels in over 38 communities across the state.
