Come to Kentucky's Special Olympics competitions in June

Kentucky's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are once again proud to be Platinum Sponsors of the 2017 Special Olympics State Summer Games.

The statewide games take place June 2-4 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, and will include competitions in track and field, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, bocce and flag football.

"Our sponsorship is just one of the many ways that Kentucky Touchstone Energy Cooperatives support our communities," said Joe Settles, Manager of Member Services at EKPC. "More than 60 co-op friends and family volunteered last year to make it an unforgettable day supporting these special athletes who demonstrate true courage in facing the challenges of life."

The state summer games are the Kentucky Special Olympics' largest competition of the year. Typically, 1,200 athletes, 600 coaches and 500 family members attend. Each athlete qualifies through participation at a regional or area-level event.

The statewide summer games officially start Friday, June 2, with opening ceremonies that will feature a parade of athletes and entertainment.
