Renewable Energy at EKPC
We're generating more green energy than any utility in Kentucky.

We're committed to providing affordable, reliable power to our members. Nearly 6 percent of our generating capacity comes from renewable sources. Here are some examples:

EnviroWatts:
Fifteen member cooperatives offer members renewable power through the EnviroWatts program.

Landfill Gas Plants:
EKPC has six plants that generate cost competitive, clean, renewable power by tapping methane gas from landfills.

National Renewables
Cooperative Organization
:

We are a founding member of the National Renewables Cooperative Organization, which helps cooperatives diversify their generation resources with renewable energy.

Hydro Power:
We purchase 170 megawatts of hydro power, which is produced by water moving through Wolf Creek and Laurel Dams.

Switchgrass:
We are partnering with the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture and farmers in northeastern Kentucky on a pilot program to evaluate using switchgrass for use as low-emission fuel in EKPC’s power plants.
