About Smith Unit #1

EKPC is proposing to construct a 278-megawatt coal-fueled unit at J.K. Smith Station in the community of Trapp, in southern Clark County, Ky.  Smith #1 is needed to meet growing demand for electricity among EKPC's members and the 500,000 Kentucky homes, farms and businesses they serve in 87 counties.  It will incorporate cutting-edge technology to drastically reduce power plant emissions.

Regulatory Review

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is preparing a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, which includes an in-depth review of the possible environmental impacts of constructing Smith #1. These documents are related to that process.

The Kentucky Division of Air Quality has issued a draft air permit for Smith #1  KDAQ will conduct a public hearing on the draft air permit on Feb. 4, 2010, 6:30 p.m. at the Clark County Extension Office, 1400 Fortune Drive, Winchester, Ky.
