- The William C. Dale Station is named in honor of EKPC's first
board chairman, who was a pioneer in formation of Kentucky's rural electric program. It
has four units.
- The John Sherman Cooper Station is named in honor of the U.S.
Senator from Kentucky who helped secure funds from the REA for construction of the plant
and its two units. Commercial operation of the first unit began on Feb. 9, 1965.
- Spurlock Station is named in honor of EKPC's first general
manager, Hugh L. Spurlock. This is, by far, EKPC's largest plant. Commercial operation of
the first unit began in 1977.
- J.K. Smith Station is named after a man who played a key role in the founding of
EKPC. The
site is the location of EKPC's combustion turbine peaking units, and EKPC
plans to construct a baseload unit at the station.
